About the project

Fighting between government and rebel troops has brought inexpressible hardship and misery to thousands in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Fighting, rape, and violence against the innocent and helpless, looting, burning, and destruction are the daily experiences of many, while the noise of cries, gunshots, broken glass, and violent voices fill the night. The following morning often unveils a gruesome picture of both death and destruction. Female family members have been abused in front of their families, fathers brutally hacked to death with machetes, and children are being forced to join the military groups as child soldiers.

The Church of the Nazarene is standing like a beacon on the ground. Church members open their doors and host refugees, strangers and family members alike, offering shelter, safety and food. Local churches have already raised $1,000.00 USD, an enormous amount considering that the few people with an income have often less than $1.00 USD per day.

With your help, NCM in Africa would like to be able to assist 500 host and displaced families with a two months’ food ration and a basic household kit, for the displaced families, including mosquito nets and blankets at a price of $120.00 USD per family.
