Fighting Hunger With Sustainable Agriculture in Liberia
About the project
In Liberia, hunger is a crisis. Health reports showing 1 out of every 5 children is dying from diseases caused by malnutrition. The Church of the Nazarene in Liberia sees farming as a practical way to answer Jesus’ call to give food to those who are hungry (Matthew 25:35).
Up to 90 percent of Nazarene congregants in central Liberia are smallholder farmers, so more than 75 churches are coming together to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition through sustainable food security efforts.
Teams will lead agricultural training, work on farming projects with local churches, develop eight zone farms to grow both food and cash crops, and implement farming practices that will lead toward a sustainable future. In addition to a focus on growing nutritious foods to improve the nutrition of children and families, it will also include cash crops to sell and the creation of production factories to help provide income and keep the farms going.
By supporting this project, you are feeding those who are hungry by helping people grow food for themselves. You are helping to save lives and create long-term solutions that will interrupt the cycle of hunger for generations of children.
